[ENG] In the summer of 2018, McDonald’s created a collection of beach towels to offer people who bought its McMenus. A rotund success. The towels, each one alluding to a different McDonald’s iconic product, were spread all over Portuguese beaches.
In the following summer, in 2019, stakes were high. So, in addition to the artist (and my creative partner) Gezo Marques brilliantly redesigning the towels, we created a film born from a mundane observation: while I was laying out the laundry at home at the end of a business summer day, I saw someone in the building in front of me laying out a beach towel. Someone who had certainly had a better day than mine, spent working. At that moment the insight materialized: a hanging towel is never just a hanging towel. It's a sign of a day well spent.
In Portuguese, the word "Estender" means both "hanging clothes to dry" and "extend". So, when we say "Estende o Verão", we mean "Hang your towel" and "Extend your summer".
To this day, years later, thousands of McDonald's towels keep showing their bright colours on the Portuguese beaches. Nobody told me.
